World eSIM Summit – Overview

The World eSIM Summit will take place on 16-17 February in Prague, Czech Republic. The summit is designed as a dynamic networking event that will focus on the eSIM technologies, the providers as well as the innovative opportunities it creates.

Embedded SIM (eSIM) has long been desired by the equipment manufacturers, in particular those focused on M2M and IoT. Benefits of programmable SIM are numerous – from the security/protection of the SIM to the remote provisioning. Now eSIM came to revolutionize the mobile telecommunications industry: the fixed-connectivity service of traditional (removable) SIM cards will be eventually replaced by the dynamic connectivity features of embedded SIMs. Earlier this year GSMA released a specification that allows consumers to remotely activate the SIM embedded in a device such as a smart watch, fitness band or tablet. The process currently under way may lead to widespread industry adoption of e-SIMs in the very near future. What challenges and opportunities does this eSIM disruption mean for the industry’s stakeholders? Find out at this year’s summit.

The world eSIM Summit will provide an excellent opportunity to learn more about the recent projects and innovations from our highly experienced inspirational speakers.

Lucy Lombardi

Lucy Lombardi is the SVP Industry Relations at Telecom Italia. Lucy is also the vice president for International Groups
& Standards at Telecom Italia. She is responsible for representing TI and communicating its positions within a range of standards bodies and industry associations as well as developing new business opportunities. She is also director of business initiatives at the GSM Association.

Lucy will give an interesting case study on ‘Defining the eSIM Advantages and New Market Opportunities’ in regards to a disruptive innovation in the mobile environment, interoperability versus fragmentation and the standardization process whilst covering the risks and opportunities of eSIM in the different markets.

Jean-Christophe Tisseuil

Jean-Christophe Tisseuil is the Head of SIM and eSIM
at GSMA. Jean-Christophe is Head of SIM at GSMA leading the Remote SIM Provisioning for Consumer Devices Programme. Previously he was Vice President Strategy Telecoms at Morpho, e-Documents Division responsible for field marketing, innovation and M2M business development. Previously he was also responsible for Product strategy and marketing for SIM cards at Orange Group.

Jean-Christophe will give a presentation on ‘The Changing of the Sim Card – Are You Ready for Remote SIM Provisioning?

Ansgar Schlautmann

Ansgar Schlautmann is the Associate Director
at Arthur D.Little’s TIME (Telecommunications, Information, Media and Electronics) practice in Frankfurt. He is responsible for the global competence center “Innovative Business Designs” which supports companies
to adopt and profit from emerging technologies and business models. He is currently in charge of the growing M2M (machine
to machine) ecosystem and has done several projects in this space, primarily focusing on the emerging ecosystem development and business-models required.

Ansgar will be speaking about ‘New Players in Industry 4.0 because of the eSIM Revolution’ in regards to the changes to the mobile supply chain and how connectivity changes both technologies
in manufacturing and job market
The purpose of the conference is to create a perfect atmosphere conducive to developing strategies for future success and achieving real results, while encouraging active networking!

Gelmalto is our Diamond sponsor for the eSIM Summit. Gemalto creates the secure software and technologies needed to bring trust to an increasingly connected world. Their solutions and services generate value for businesses and governments by protecting identities and data wherever they are.

“Our solutions are at the heart of modern life, from payment to enterprise security and the internet of things. We authenticate people, transactions and objects, encrypt data and create value for software – enabling our clients to deliver secure digital services for billions of individuals and things.” – Gemalto

COMPRION is our Platinum Sponsor at eh eSIM Summit. COMPRION develops test systems for testing terminals, Smart Card interfaces and Smart Cards for contact-based and contactless communication. As the mobile and payment sectors are converging, it becomes crucial to test a variety of different technologies and communication parts involved – be it NFC, OTA, GlobalPlatform or the network access standard. COMPRION’s test solutions help terminal and card manufacturers, chipset vendors, network operators and test labs to find the weak link in the communication chain. Moreover, COMPRION offers support for analysing and solving customer-specific problems.

The World eSIM Summit was designed to address these key issues:

  • Connected cars
  • Enterprise vertical IoT and M2M
  • Non-phone devices, tablets, wearables, etc.
  • Mobile IoT
  • Security role of the UICC (SIM)
